COVID 19 Update

The month of March has been a major challenge for Cronulla SLSC since the discovery of Covid-19 in Australia. The situation has accelerated quickly with advice and restrictions changing daily. The following is an update for members regarding the current restrictions that are in place and planning for the future.

Surf Sports
SLSA announced on 13 March that the 2020 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships have been cancelled. All subsequent surf sports events have also been cancelled including our Sunday surf races.

This has also resulted in the cancellation of all training sessions. Access to the Bay Shed and container will be closed as the Club has no way to ensure proper sanitation at these locations.

The International Life Saving Federation has also announced that the 2020 Life Saving World Championships has been postponed to 2021 or 2022.

Patrolling and Instruction
On Tuesday 24 March the Sydney Branch presidents met and unanimously voted to suspend all patrols. Surf Life Saving NSW also announced on 27 March that all patrols in NSW will be cancelled for the 19/20 Season. Information about patrol attendance awards will be announced shortly.

All training for new awards has also been postponed.

Sunday Bar and Social Gatherings
Due to the restriction on social gatherings and the directive to close all licensed venues, The Sunday Bar has been closed for the remainder of the 19/20 Season.

Our annual golf day has also been cancelled.

Support for Our Tenants and Sponsors
This is an extremely stressful time for all small businesses and our tenants and sponsors are no different.

Our Tenants have had to close their businesses or adapt to try and make ends meet. We are currently in discussions with our bank regarding the options available to us in order to ensure that we have a sound financial position through the disruption ahead, and once that is finalised we will hold further negotiations with all of our tenants to assist them through this difficult period.

We are constantly asking our sponsors to support us, so now I would ask that all Club members help support our sponsors and tenants during this trying time by utilising their services where possible.

Meetings and AGM
Although face to face meetings have been cancelled, club meetings are proceeding using teleconferencing. The Club has purchased a Zoom subscription. Anyone who needs to hold a zoom meeting please contact me for the details.

The Club is still planning to hold our presentation night and AGM in the new club house. The Executive are monitoring the situation closely and are putting plans in place for alternative solution if physical meetings are not possible.

I thank all members for their patience during this difficult time. I encourage all members to ensure the restrictions on social distancing, social gatherings and self-isolation are followed at all times.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
