How to join the Cronulla Crays

Registrations are now open for Season 2024/2025

Nippers is the Junior Branch of Australian Surf Life Saving working to develop competent and confident future generations of lifesavers on our beaches. Nippers is about fun, friendship and surf safety, whilst instilling courage, resilience, teamwork, and sense of community.

At Cronulla, children 5-14 year-olds learn about the many aspects of surf life saving by participating in age group activities both in and out of the water. Along with fun physical skills such as swimming, board paddling, shallow wading, beach running, and flags; Nippers also develop a solid understanding of Surf Life Saving – from the foundations of the ocean and surf environments, through CPR, basic first aid, and responding to a rescue.

Cronulla Crays Nippers is fun for the entire family! Through this junior program, both children and parents attain vital surf lifesaving skills, and become an integral part of this great and valuable community.

Nippers is not a learn to swim program. We strongly encourage all nippers to participate in an external professional swimming program.  Your child will be safer in the ocean and progress more quickly if they are a confident swimmer.

The Blue Fins program aims to give young people with special disabilities beach safety and water awareness skills and offers inclusion within our mainstream groups

All nippers must complete a proficiency test every year. Our Season 2024-2025 Proficiency days are scheduled for:-

  • Saturday 31 August – 12pm-2pm
  • Sunday 8th September – 12pm-2pm
  • Sunday 15th September – 12pm-2pm

Nippers must be registered prior to attending proficiency days.
