2016 Annual Golf Day a Success

The annual Cronulla SLSC Golf day was held at Woolooware Golf Club on 8th April 2016

Our major sponsor was once again Pat Bourke of Southern Cross Protection who we are extremely grateful for his continued support. Individual hole sponsors were Highland Property, Jaycee Building & Converged Communications.

The weather was kind to us and the course presented well for the day. After a beer and burgers for lunch, we had 77 golfers teeing off at 1pm for a shotgun start. Woolooware Golf club provided drink stewards for the day, circling the front & back nines keeping the players refreshed. There were some novelty holes the players had to traverse, straightest drive, reversing drivers on the 5th – right hander’s hitting off with a left handed driver and vice versa, for the lefties, as well as the conventional longest drive and nearest the pin holes.

After golf we adjourned to the golf club’s dining room to partake of a few more refreshments and a sumptuous buffet meal. Our guest speaker, Andrew Kerr (Ake) & interviewer (come interrogator) Tubby Turner proved to be a great success with interesting aspects, and anecdotal tales from Ake’s experiences in 4 Olympic tours for Australia in water polo. He gave freely of his services and we were honoured by his presence. Thank you. We were also entertained by comedienne Madeleine ‘Frankie’ Doran, who gave her father Frank a great roast and had the audience in raptures.

The auction was conducted by Matt Callaghan from Highland Property, who did a great job; he coerced, cajoled and entertained, during his stint with the microphone. Gratitude’s and appreciation to all the golfers who contributed, over and above the call, your efforts to support the sky blue, black & white was humbling.

It would be remiss of me not to mention our fantastic band of workers, we can’t thank you enough, your dedication to continually supporting the event, has helped grow it to this success.
